Some music..

Once in a while I take fancy to a certain musician/artist and most often they are newbies so I get to listen to all of their work. And once I get into them, I just about lose interest in any other music and day in and day out I listen to them. I remember telling someone that discovering a new artist is akin to discovering a strange exotic island where I tend to lose myself, forgetting all about the rest of the world. And more often than not, my islands are the rarely visited ones. While people like to go and frolic about in the touristy islands, I prefer them secluded ones. You may not really have heard about the artists whose music I'm so fond of. So, after I discover them, I spend days and weeks on them till I feel like they're part of me. I leave them fondly to return back once in a while and greet them like old chums.

I'm pretty sure most people can relate.

So after you are done obsessing over them and you have moved on, found some other life-long chums, one day you hear one of your friends listening to them incessantly, just like you used to back in the days. You are almost jealous, as if you are seeing your crush liking your friend instead of you, although you know it's absurd. You have done your share of obsessing and it's time you give them some credit and the right to be as much loved by somebody else as you.

And then there are those music that hold your hand in times of your despair. And you clutch to them as if clinging to dear life. They hold on to you faithfully and see you through till you're ready to face the world. You move on. One day you encounter your friend and it feels almost embarrassing. Here is a friend that led you through your thick times and yet you see them as a reminder of the times gone by where you were wretchedly weak. You want to walk by them and don't want to look back and yet wisdom tells you to just smile and thank them for being there.

Yes, there are some music that are part of you in times of youth and envy, of self discovery and self depravity, of wisdom and sanctity.
