Building up life, moment by moment

Image
Do you like to make every moment count? I know everybody wants to. (But on a second thought, most people don't even think about the moments, let alone going ahead and making efforts to make them count.) I'd like to think I do. But sometimes seeing the way I spend my "moments", I wonder if that is true at all.  I just got back from a party. It was a Christmas party from work. I had not bothered going last year and until about 2 days ago, I wasn't going to attend this time either. But of late, I have been in a habit of changing my mind about too many things. so despite many obstacles, I ended up going after all. Although I admit I did not "enjoy" myself like the people around me so obviously did, I had my own thing going on. I have read somewhere that, "No experience is a waste of time; If it doesn't give you what you want, it teaches you what you don't want." So, while people were busy merrymaking, I was busy realising...

It's such a cliché, but I never get tired of it, "Life is Beautiful"

Image
Ask me how my life is, and without blinking my eyes, I'll tell you my life is beautiful. God knows my life is not the easiest and I am not the happiest person you'll ever meet. It's just that I like to keep it simple and choose to say my life is worth more than anything in the world. So this young and pretty actress committed suicide recently. It was a waste of a beautiful life. I will not go and judge her, saying how she could just put an end to her life when there are people in the world living with much less than what she had. She must have had her own reasons, and since she has already gone and taken her life, there is nothing we can do about it. Talking about the cons of suicide will not change anything about this news and I do not intend to do any of that. What I do intend to do is remind myself and you that life is a gift that we are given without the guarantee of being born again. Everyone has their own problems, some are given more than the othe...

A couple of hundred years ago, Benjamin Franklin shared with the world the secret of his success. “Never leave that till tomorrow,” he said, “Which you can do today.” This is the man who discovered electricity. You’d think more of us would listen to what he had to say. I don’t know why we put things off, but if I had to guess, I’d say it has a lot to do with fear. Fear of failure. Fear of pain. Fear of rejection. Sometimes the fear is just of making a decision, because what if you’re wrong? What if you make a mistake you can’t undo? Whatever it is we're afraid of, one thing holds true: that by the time the pain of not doing the thing gets worse than the fear of doing it, it can feel like we're carrying around a giant tumor. And you thought I was speaking metaphorically. The early bird catches the worm; a stitch in time saves nine. He who hesitates is lost. We can't pretend we haven't been told. We've all heard the proverbs, heard the philosophers, heard our...

Because it will give you courage. Because it will give you strength to move on. Because crying and giving up has never done anyone any good. Because it will lift the spirits of your loved ones. Because you look ugly when you look sad. Because it is an antidote to misery. Because it is a way to be thankful you're alive. Because it is the best way to greet the day ahead. Because it is also the best way to say goodbye to a day. Because it has the power to make someone's day. Because it can wash away your pain faster than you think. Because it looks more beautiful on you than the most expensive of clothes. Because "it is the best way to get away with trouble even if it’s a fake one" Because it is contagious and the world will smile right back at you. Because "it is the way the soul says hello" Because everything will be alright. Because life is worth it. Because YOU  are worth it.

I'm not a Chocoholic. Sue me.

Image
If you're done with gaping at the title of this blog, I'd like to assert again that I DON'T LIKE CHOLOLATE!! And I'm not the only one, if you're wondering what the heck makes me stand out from this chocolate-loving planet. Granted, it's proven that chocolate's ingredients have a significant impact on brain chemistry. It is said to stimulate the brain's pleasure centers. Chocolate have been shown to help our body produce more of a special chemical known as “serotonin.” Because serotonin makes us feel relaxed, eating chocolate has a pleasurable, relaxing effect that makes us feel good! It may be true for the 96% of the population (A survey showed that 4% people did not like chocolate) but it's not a fact that is true for everyone.  Chocolates are too sweet, and I'm not too fond of sweet items. I said, not too fond. But then again, some chocolates aren't sweet, just bitter. Either way, I don't like them. Period. I don't not-e...

If slaughterhouses had glass walls, everyone would be a vegetarian.

Image
“I am a vegetarian” is what I tell my friends of whoever asks me when it’s time to eat. But I should just tell them that “I do not eat meat”, cause I do eat fish and eggs. That doesn’t make me so much of an animal lover, now does it? And people ask how that makes me a vegetarian. To that I’d like to say, if I said I was a non-vegetarian but did not eat meat, that’d make it sound more bizarre, wouldn’t it? I do not know why people fuss so much about what a vegetarian should eat and what they should not eat. And then they ask why I don’t eat meat. I don’t eat meat cause I don’t like to. Period. But today I write not on my behalf, but on Philip Wollen’s. Here’s an interesting find. Philip Wollen’s shakes the rafters of the auditorium with his 10-minute speech to the St James Ethics Centre and the Wheeler Centre debate in Australia on May 16, 2012. The larger debate consists of six speakers, three that make the case for getting animals off of the menu and three that make...

What makes a Hero?

Image
If you were to choose between being a hero and being a villain, what would you do? Apart from some exceptions, I’d say, most of us would choose to be heroes. Only, it isn’t always that we get to play hero. And, thankfully, it isn’t only those two centre roles that are open to us. The movie always has a lot of characters in it. Our lives are a lot like movies,…of course, movies are inspired by real lives in some way or the other, and we are the heroes of the stories of our own lives. There was once this movie, which made me think about this matter and think really hard. In this movie, there’s a hero (as we like to call them) and his best friend. They are great warriors. And there’s our heroine. Both the guys are in love with this girl and naturally our heroine is in love with the hero. The best friend tells his buddy, our hero, about his love and the hero keeps mum about his own love. Heroes always sacrifice, you see. As the story develops, there’s war, and the antagonists...

My take on life...(kura ho 14 July, 2011 ko)

Image
We live long lives. This may not seem to be true to us who think we have so less time and so much to do. We feel as if time passes us by so swiftly. When we look back, so many things seem to have happened and that too so fast, and we seem to have reached so far from where we had started, if there is such a point of beginning to begin with. Those who know how to, live their lives one moment at a time. But we're never given a manual about how to live our lives, how to deal with the problems we face every day, how to differentiate what's good for us from what's bad for us. There are days when it feels like time is just slugging by. A second feels like a minute, a minute feels like an hour and it feels like a miracle when an hour passes. But still, miraculously we live our lives without even realizing what we've done and how we did it. It has nearly been a year since I joined SB, and yet it feels like it was just yesterday since I walked in that door nervous...
